Born on 5th July 1960 in a Rajasthani Family, he graduated from Sydenham College, Mumbai. Later on, become a Chartered Accountant. He manages his own portfolio through his asset management firm called Rare Enterprises




First Big Profit

He started with Rs.5000, but with help of his brother's contact, he was able to raise a loan of

Rs. 7.5 lakhs in those days. He promised the lenders that he will guarantee a higher return than bank deposits. Rakesh Jhunjhunwala earned his first big profit in 1986 when he bought Tata Tea shares. He bought 5,000 shares of Tata Tea at just Rs 43 and later that stock rose to Rs 143 within three months. He earned over three times a profit. In the next three years, Jhunjhunwala earned Rs 20-25 lakh.

RARE Enterprises

RARE Enterprises gets its name from the first two letters of Rakesh Jhunjunwala & first two letters of his wife Rekha. After RARE enterprises, he shifted his focus to investing rather than trading. Titan has been his stellar investment. While we read about his gain, he lost significant money in DHFL & Geojit Financial Services.

OTHER INTERESTS

You would be surprised to know that Rakesh Jhunjunwala produced the Hindi Movie, EnglishVinglish. He gives 25% of his earnings to charity. He contributes to St Jude, which runs shelters for cancer-affected children, Agastya International Foundation, and Arpan, an entity that helps create awareness among children about sexual exploitation. He also supports Ashoka University, Friends of Tribals Society, and the Olympic Gold Quest. He is in the process of building an eye hospital in Navi Mumbai, which will perform 15,000 eye surgeries free of cost.
